Tested under DOS, Windows, QNX, Linux console (fb) and X11. Untested under
BeOS. Commited (and request closed on SourceForge's tracker).

Regarding the size of the window, I'm in favor of the wait & see approach:
if 320x200 really looks too small, we'll change it later.
