Maybe have a font_renderer_init, which must be called after
gfx mode is initialized, which prints patterns, then tries
to write and read from the same batch of pixels, and compares
the results. Not just the same pixel, as cards might have
a buffer that would spew out the right thing. Say a whole
scanline, maybe.
