I don't know what this /proc thing is, but FYI, I get the following:

  $ echo $MACHTYPE
  sparc-sun-solaris2.6
  $ ls /proc/
  0      130    17021  18921  20802  23445  28697  4342   5494   7360
  [and a page of more numbers looking like pids, but nothing else]
