i have usually run "./fix.sh unix --dtou" before i started making any
releases. which sets +x on all the perl and bash scripts and converts
accidental DOS EOLs. it doesn't really matter that the file has the wrong
permissions in the repository as long as they are corrected at some point,
which is something fix.sh does.
