A while ago I mailed about problems I had with WIP 3.9.38, in response
to a mail from SET who had similar problems. I'm happy to report that
most problems have been solved in the latest CVS version
(10-Cct-2001), but 2 remain. I also installed the latest NVidia X
drivers, so I can't tell if that may have solved problems, but most
things work now.
Solved:
- bad lockups in setup program when returning to main menu
- DGA2 modes work like a charm, except I have to be root. Is this
according to specification or should it be possible to use DGA2 as a
user? As a user I get an error like 'cannot access framebuffer'.
DGA2 no longer gives me 2 parallel screens (one left half, one right
half) with the same image with distorted colors.
Remaining:
- The Fullscreen X mode (not DGA) used to work for normal users. I now
get the following error (not literal, sorry I'm at work and can't
reproduce it here):
error setting 8 bit graphics mode
cannot grab mouse
As root, the mode works ok.
- The demo game works like a charm using DGA2, with (double buffer) a
steady frame rate of 43 fps (1400x1050x32). If I select triple
buffer it gets a bit strange though: the keyboard input is affected. A
key responds only after about 2 seconds (has to stay pressed), and the
effect lasts as if the key were pressed another 2 seconds afterwards.
System: linux 2.4.4, X 4.003, Nvidia TNT with latest detonator
drivers, allegro 3.9.39 cvs 10-oct-2001
