some optimising worked. from a previous of 243ms exec time to 109ms on my 
computer. ;o)

also applied peter's patch to the mode-selector, and in the mingw makefile i 
replaced the depreciated -mwindows option with -Wl,--subsystem,windows and 
combined two sections.
