it's a bad thing to confuse mmx with sse. and this would mean mmx
optimalizations are not included if the assembler supports mmx but not sse.
to get it right, one should add an ssetest to the makefiles, add #define
ALLEGRO_SSE_HEADER to the platform specific includes and put #ifndef
ALLEGRO_SSE in some files in src/i386/. but since the whole tests are
pointless (!) it's better to not have them at all. who would want a library
without optimised code anyway? retards?
the only reason i can think of to still have them, is to avoid questions like
"ran make, got an error message: No such i386 instruction. Help!!!"
but both readme.txt and the FAQ lists binutils 2.10 or newer as required.
besides i think it is impolite to ask such questions on the mailinglist
without having read those files first.

you said it! a lot of open-source software nowadays lists software
requirements so why not us?
