I didn't like the idea of a single panned sample distorting... but I agree
now, it's better this way. A patch is attached. I've done rudimentary
testing, but it's as well if you test it yourself before applying it. In
particular, make sure the new docs compile ;-)

I also did not alter the changes._tx file. You'll probably want to do that
;-)
