Sorry, this is my doing. Frankly I don't remember exactly. Something
about not having to include aintern or allegro, or maybe it was a
casting problem (relative to having one function pointer shared between
code for X, and Windows) - argh, now I realise why comments are
important :) If there's no good reason to have it, then I guess Javier
(or I) can get rid of it.
