Wouldn't it be easier to require everyone to run `make depend' before
`make', if they have downloaded from CVS. If you have gone to the
trouble of setting up CVS and keeping your version of Allegro current,
then you are surely capable of understanding this extra step. 

Of course, the actual distributions would still have the correct
dependency files, so they can be built out of the box, as is currently
the case.
