Yes, pretty much.

Having the right data as ammunition really helps with that. :-) Actually just moving to a different instance solved the problem (seamless in a cloud system).  I doubt the host actually fixed any systemic issue involved with their virtualization software, so this may recur, but I'll know what to do if it does.
