Hug to all,

SliTaz 3.0 Roadmap is mostly wrote but a few things must be discuss:
the core ISO size and UTF-8 by default.

Using UTF-8 by default will alow use to use gettext and PO files to
translate all SliTaz apps and boxes. Using standard PO files will make
translation easier for all languages and actually some languages such
has Russian work only with UTF-8.

But using UTF-8 with the current selection of the core packages,
produce an ISO image bigger than 30 MB (~31,2 Mb). That said I think is
not a problem, I think we should keep the core under 35 Mb so it boot
with 256 Mb and include Abiword or MPlayer, more i18n and hardware
support.

Historicaly I fixed at first an ISO size at 20 Mb to boot with
128 MB, with 2.0 the minimal RAM to load the core is 160 MB and we
provide official flavors or web boot to use SliTaz with less memory. So
the goal is always reached: provide a full featured, fast, light
and compact OS for modern harware but also usable on older machines.

Ok to have the core under 35 Mb ? Suggestions, commnents ?

Please give a look to the Roadmap for 3.0 if you have time, all
comments and suggestions are welcome, checking typo is also more than
welcome. I will finish it when the ISO size thing is fixed:

On a personnal side and would like to support translations teams as much
has possible. Paul, Claudinei, Sevala, Draplater and others are doing
an incredible work. If we give the core a few Mb we could realy improve
languages support and SliTaz.

Hello Christophe:
I am an end-user of a computer and no way connected with hardware/software beyond the fact that I like to use a computer for the few things I do and I do prefer open source / non-proprietary software. I have tried Slitaz 1.0 briefly. but for the time being I am still using Windows(98Se if you want to know and no intention of using XP and further). Since you have laid out the road map for Slitaz 3.0, I felt that I may express my views on an OS and you could take it as you see fit.I will pose it as a series of questions /opinins that you may consider.

!) Who is the target of this distro? Other programmers/computer geeks or end users for whom the OS & Computer is a tool to get a certain job done? Mind you even if it used as a mundane tool, it can still be a thing o beauty illustration the highest craftsmanship.

2) are you trying to provide a tool for the masses with little financial resources, to meet the "rich & famous" on an equal footing i.e., a level playing field?

3) Are you trying to recycle the existing equipment or are you trying to trying to use use the latest & greatest of technology. In other words are you saying to hell with yesterdays technology or are considering the enormous amount of e-waste being produced and trying to counteract some of the wasteful ways of our society?

perhaps we could have a conversation on those.

Thank you for listening.
