I have reproduce the problem to.
Updating udev work fine.
Updating busybox, make trouble, depmod cause segfault..
like you i'have recharge module-init-tools and the segfault disapear.
I investigate more and see that module-init-tools provide depmod too.

7 files installed with module-init-tools.
There is a path (busybox-1.12.0-zmodules.u) in the wok.
Maybe Pascal is trying to patch the modutils applet, to have lzma support...
