I had to edit rivendell-1.5.0.ebuild a little bit to get it to work. I moved
the user and group creation earlier in the script and put the sox patch back
in. In order to make sure things run as expected, I put some use flag
conditions on the sox dependency. The message at the end has changed slightly
and I added ~x86 to the top. Here it is;

I rewrote the sox patch and put it back in. If you test any of the audio
importing or exporting you will find the program expects sox-12 installed.
The patch corrects deprecated options and syntax.
