This beta tries to load plugins from /usr/bin/plugins, which results in trying
to load all kinds of garbage that has nothing to do with hydrogen and
ultimately results in a segfault.
I don't know if other distros place ladspa plugins there, but in Gentoo nearly
anything and everything that is a "plugin" of some sort gets dumped to that
path. (Except of course for ladspa plugins) There is nowhere that I can find
in the user config that allows you to specify the paths hydrogen looks for
plugins. The source needs to be patched to get rid of this search path in
order for this beta to work.
