one point I would make is that glibc 2.4x seems fine, it's with =>glibc2.5 
that the problem lies. itried 2.5,6&7 and LS wouldn't build without the gcc 
update.  it would make more sense to prevent a build if glibc was not 
correct, because with glibc2.4x you don't need to update gcc ;) that's how it 
was for me anyway.
