From user's POV, it may be something like this:

- after first start a host tries to find plugins in "common places", gather
  all names under "All" (undeletable) dedicated parent. Dirs-to-scan list can
  be edited later also (with rescanning),
- user creates own (sub)categories tree the way she want,
- user can move or copy any leave between any parents,
- user can "copy from" the "All"-parent only (not to move),
- leaf can has different attached icons (vst or ladspa or lv2, broken link, ...).
