Sorry for the late reply, but was a few days away due to the holidays.
I didn't get much luck compiling it on my own, but found a build online and was just able to test it, the window resize part seems to be working fine feels great to finally be able to enlarge the window to the size I want it. Didn't have much time yet to see if there are any other issues comparing to the SDL1 version, but will most likely be using this version from now on so will report back if I find any problems.

Did you figure it out? You basically need to install the SDL2-devel
package first, then run "./configure --enable-sdl2" before compiling it.
