Hi,
let me just say that you are not alone. I've been thinking about
something similar as well for some time. However, I never found time to
finish anything substantial.
Actually, I see that problem very related to the direct access type
unification problem:

I hope I'll find some time soon, to give an overview of my thoughts so far.
