[cairo-compmgr] Workspace grid layout

Hi,

I'm using Awesome and am looking for a way to have a grid layout for the
workspace, just as what is available in gnome-shell (thanks to an
extension, see
https://bitbucket.org/mathematicalcoffee/workspace-grid-gnome-shell-extension)
or in latest version of Unity.

I think I need a compositing manager in order to have such a function,
and found cairo-compmgr but couldn't find any information about such a
feature of cairo-compmgr.

So, is there any way to do this using cairo-compmgr ? And else, can it
be a feature request for one of the next version ?
