I was thinking along those lines too. Unfortunately, it doesn't help
much. I can get some unicode characters straight from the NSEvent or
equally from insertText: but the '2 stage' ones (e.g. alt-e e for é)
aren't sent through either mechanism. I guess that function must be
implemented by NSText(View) itself.
I'll have to ask elsewhere.
