Summary: problems with QueryPerformanceCounter
Initial Comment:
There are reports of problems with al_current_time() on some machines running Windows. We're not sure what the problem is, but judging by some web searches QueryPerformanceCounter is not entirely reliable and the actual behaviour contradicts what Microsoft documentation says. Even if it is a driver bug we should have some way to work around it, automatically if possible, otherwise using a config file option.
