The product/service I'm building is a monthly
subscription MMO product like UO, EQ, WoW, DAOC, etc.
It's not a standalone product where one can choose to
be out of date if they like and get the latest version
when they get a chance. The client files have to be
kept in sync with what the game servers expect in
order to play.
In order for me to properly support my product and
enhance it on a regular basis I have to have the
direct ability to update it completely and
automatically without disrupting my player's ability
to connect and play.
It's relatively straight forward to accomplish for
Windows and Mac thanks to Allegro's cross-platform
ability and Window's/Mac's more standardized platform.
Linux is proving to be a real pain with it's myriad
of distributions.
