The fix is simply to allow a color depth of "255" to meam 8-bit.

For some reason, some old datafiles have 255.. up to about 4.1.18,
everything not 0 meant 8-bit. Now, why sometimes 255 instead of 1 was
written by dat/grabber, I don't know..
