That is odd. With the patch, when Alt is pressed, any key press (and as
you noted, even things like modifier keys) will simply produce a
readkey() event with the ASCII part set to 0. Now, it may be that
windows modifies the Alt key state when a 0-9 key is pressed.. nothing
would surprise me anymore.
