I see this thread is somewhat heating up :-)
Removing the dependencies upon non-native tools is a desirable goal and we
should try to achieve it for MSVC too. The situation is the 4.1.x series
has improved wrt to the 4.0.x series, since theoritically GCC (the C
compiler) is only needed to compile the makefile stub. GAS (the assembler)
is still needed to assemble the .s files, but this is a much lighter
dependency than the whole compiler.
Evert, would you mind pointing the MSVC users eager to untangle the
dependencies to patch #749810 on SF's tracker? It has been there for months
without getting testing. Thanks in advance.
