It's again a very common practice for callbacks to be passed their caller,
like to return an acknowledge value (hence this @&$#! of for_each_file()
could be fixed too ;-).
IMHO that would be useful, but I know of API ayatollahs that presumably
don't share this viewpoint ;-)
