I'm not sure. I was told the K6 line of chips wasn't originally designed by
AMD but adopted after the chipmaker had bought one of its rivals (I don't
remember which one). The very reason for the acquisition was to fill the gap
between the poor K5 and the then upcoming marvelous K7.

I'm ok with the little overhead. I'm more worried about the alignment issue.
