wah! the total numer of entries in the mode selector for drivers which
doesn't support fetch_mode_list() will be 160 (32 modes * 5 color depths)
unless i simplify a little.
i think the smartest thing will be to have multiple mode lists. the VGA,
ModeX and Xtended drivers can share one (or have one each) with only <=
640x400 8 bpp modes, while the SVGA-type drivers can have one which covers
all standard modes >= 640x400 all colordepths.
i'm not sure about how the valid modes are for Xwin fullscreen, Photon, Mac,
FBCon, VBE/AF, and which of these drivers could have fetch_mode_list()
implemented in the near future... so some pointers here will be appreciated.
I think the safest bet is to let these drivers use the standard SVGA mode
list for now.
