I'm just thinking... is the width of the filename box constant? If so, then
we can make the maximum height of the stretched box constant - or maybe
specified by the user - but constant across different graphics modes. The
weirdness factor comes from this ratio, not from the vagaries of different
graphics modes.

That's until someone comes up with the 320x1024 mode :-)

So how about that - a function that stretches the box by up to a constant
amount specified by the user? The box would reduce the size if the
resolution was too low, but otherwise use the size specified... Just a
thought :-)
