this has been in the air a while ago. there has been enough code to
justify a release, but someone needs to actually do it, and this is
the bottleneck :)

Just an idea: it would be possible to make snapshots available to
anybody as a tar or zip file daily (without assurance that this
package would work or even compile). Would this be of any use to
coders without cvs ? It's only a matter of putting that on cron:

rm -rf allegro
cvs co allegro
tar cvfz allegro.tar.gz allegro/

of course you're on your own to run automake and friends ....
this could be proposed to Matthew for allegro.cc if this seems it
could be useful to some people...
