Here's my info:

 Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i586-mandrake-linux/2.95.3/specs
 gcc version 2.95.3 19991030 (prerelease)

I heard about Mandrake 7.2 (what I have) having gcc 2.95.3 prerelease, that 
infact is a snapshot version, and not an official one, thus it may have 
problems. But I always tend to look for other explanations than just saying 
"it's the compiler's fault"...
Looks like this can't be applied here though; we should really consider gcc 
to be buggy.
