No it doesn't (not any more). I checked. Sure it uses DirectSound, but
presumably it opens an audiostream-type thing and tells Allegro's mixer to
mix into that. Please tell me if I'm *really* badly mistaken :-)

Fair enough. Is it OK for it to be in mixer.c, even though (I think) it
would be the only global function there?

The format's really scary though! Will someone else insert the text if I
write it? (gets down on his knees and begs :-)

I think I'll stick with it then. That "silent mixer" terminology sounds
pretty cool...

I'll have to create the function and modify allegro.h, then I'll send it to
you. I have tested the volume levels for all qualities using sine waves,
since they sound like square waves if they distort. I'm pretty sure it works
:-)

I'm happy to make the patch myself this time.
