general tablature support.  There are a lot of enhancements, and the use of tablature.ly is obsolete.

Thanks for your observations! As a workaround, you can use

\override TabVoice.MultiMeasureRestText #'transparent = ##t

or

\layout {
 \context {
 \TabVoice
 \override MultiMeasureRestText #'transparent = ##t
 }
}
