Interesting. Not sure how clock_gettime differs from getnstimeofday,
but my measurements are:

Athlon K8 2.0 GHz single core: 30 ns (tsc), 838ns (acpi_pm)
Core 2 2.4 GHz dual core: 60 ns (tsc)
Pentium 4 2.8 GHz hyper threading: 105 ns (tsc)
