I have changed the question to a test of cholmod_solve2; see

Under the heading Bset, you can find a description of my confusion about using the routine.

Perhaps this routine is important to eigen's use of cholmod, given the following quote from the cholmod users guide:
'This cholmod_solve2 function allows you to reuse the memory space of a prior X, thereby saving time.'
